NyankoPots are functional handmade ceramics, they are nice to hold, lovely to use, cute and a little quirky.
I’m Yoshi, the maker of NyankoPots. Nyanko means kitty, a cute way of saying cat in Japanese, hence kitties appear everywhere in my work.
The most popular item is the ginger grater, which I have been making since 2005. Over the years it has been refined to exactly how I would like to use it in my own kitchen. They are made with porcelain and the spikes are created by steady hands using a knife.
Another signature piece is the cups with a cat sitting on the handle. You can stroke the cat while drinking tea, awww!
The recent addition to the NyankoPots is the cat shaped flower vase. It is slowly built up using coiling technique. I can’t stop smiling while making vases. It is a sculpture with functionality and each piece is totally unique.
My pottery journey started from wanting to make bowls and dishes when I cook Japanese food.
I use all of my pottery creations in my home, it helps me to improve the functionality of the products.
I work from a tiny studio in my garden, where Columbo (cat) and Louie (dog) hang around overlooking my pottery wheel.
