Hello there, thank you for visiting my page! I am Debbie, the designer/maker behind Tāla Home and Living.
I design and make lampshades and cushions, as well as upcycle and upholster preloved pieces of furniture. I combine traditional and natural textiles to create pieces for people who like their interior infused with an understated global flavour, love deep and earthy colours found in nature and are passionate about patterns.
My greatest inspiration comes from having lived in India for seven years where I fell in love with traditional block printing and visited many artisans as I was researching the craft. The herbal and mineral colours used by the printers in their workshops is what still informs my choice of hues when I create pieces for Tāla. I look for the most environmental option available to me whenever I work on a project or design and I source fabrics directly from artisans or through other ethical businesses.
I specialise in double sided lampshades and I often use the printed fabric on the inside. As the light is turned on, the pattern reveals itself on the outside, colours and textures combine and the lamp becomes a unique focal point in the room.
