Phoebe Sherwood is an independent contemporary designer maker based in Sussex with a workshop in Lewes. Phoebe makes jewellery which playfully interprets natural form with a focus on craftsmanship, responsibly sourced materials, clean lines and wearability. She uses a combination of wood, silver and gold in her nature inspired collections which are all based around a theme or narrative. Her style is influenced by her English upbringing and Scottish heritage, while travelling the world and walking her dog in the British countryside provides much of her inspiration.
Phoebe’s silver collections are crafted from recycled silver and sustainably sourced and recycled wood. A gold vermeil finish is added to many of the pieces which is also done by Phoebe in her workshop. She uses electrolysis to apply the thick layer of gold plate to the silver. She also works with solid recycled gold and responsibly sources precious and semi-precious stones in her fine one-off pieces.
Phoebe originally set out to become an illustrator but was always drawn to jewellery and began making jewellery whilst studying Art & Design at Brighton City College in 2002. Phoebe took on an apprenticeship and worked for a goldsmith for four years before after which she set out to design and craft her own original collections, founding ‘Phoebe Jewellery’ in 2012. She now works as a full time jeweller as well as a freelance illustrator and her jewellery is sold at galleries throughout the UK.
