Accessories

Ellen Galloway established egallowayleather in 2017 following her study of Saddlery at Capel Manor College in North London. This course inspired her to create stylish and durable hand stitched small leather accessories.

Products are made using veg tanned leather, linen thread and beeswax in original designs. Items are cut out by hand using traditional leatherworking tools and are then hand stitched.

‘Double stitching’ or ‘saddle stitching’, where the thread passes back and forth through two or more pieces of leather will not come undone if one stitch is cut or damaged, whereas a thread sewn on a sewing machine is simply caught up by the thread underneath/bobbin thread, and is prone to unravelling. In Saddlery it could be a safety issue, but here it is an opportunity to craft a product with greater integrity.

The designs from egallowayleather are of ‘raw edge’ construction and so the edges are hand burnished/polished, which seals the edges of the leather. Items are lovingly hand crafted to order by Ellen, in a small workshop in Walthamstow, East London. Products are available to order online via the website, or in person by visiting the egallowayleather stall, at designer fairs throughout the year.
