I’m Ellie and I run Ellie Smith Illustration.
My work has always been drawn by hand and most often from life. At uni in Leeds my tutor suggested I go walking in the Yorkshire countryside, sketching nature and animals. This developed my loose yet closely-observed style and I haven’t looked back.
My inspiration comes from the recognisable, which can mean anything from local pubs to animals, iconic toasters to food. I don’t draw people close up, or make-believe, but almost everything else goes! I love to find humour in my work and embrace the wonky lines of on-location drawing.
